Part 1: Welcome to TrustBuilder™
Trust seems to be everywhere, all of the time. It’s talked about in movies, on podcasts, and at conferences. Trust shows up in traffic when someone obeys a stop light and we drive through without a thought. We trust the grocery store will stock the essentials, and we’re shocked when they are out. We place trust in friends and family, sharing our emotions and passions with vulnerability. When trust is broken, we are disappointed or even heart broken. At work, trust is a currency we extend, exchange or withhold. Whether in organizations, on teams or in personal relationships, we know when we have it, and we know when it’s gone. When trust is present, Harvard suggests we…
- Connect more (76% more engaged)
- Work harder (50% more productivity)
- Are more profitable (93% of execs agree)
- Carry less stress (74% less)
- Life is literally better (29% more satisfied with life)
- And the list goes on and on and on…
What about a lack of trust? Think of a time you were on a low trust team versus a high trust team. Which was better? Living and working where trust is present is a far better experience.
Literally thousands of classes, books, and keynote speakers trumpet “Trust is the key!” And we agree! There is little doubt trust fuels success and, yet,
94% of executives say they “struggle” building trust. We all want the benefits of trust and, at the same time, we do not always know how or what to do. We can help with that.
Introducing TrustBuilder™, a company dedicated to helping organizations and teams of all types build trust faster and more effectively. Based on years of research and a deep belief in the power and value of trust, we have developed a unique set of organizational metrics which identify strengths and gaps in trust, assessments that produce individual trust profiles, and consulting services all designed for one thing: building trust faster, more authentically, and with precision.
Bringing Trust into Focus
Renowned relationship jedi, Dr. John Gottman, in his book “The Science of Trust” suggests that trust between people can be mostly summed up in one statement: “are you there for me?”
Try it. Pick a person you know. Pause and consider: are they there for you?
If your answer is “yes” then you likely trust the person. If you answer “no” then there is a trust deficit or maybe no trust at all. But, what if you needed to build trust with a new teammate? Where would you start?
What earns trust is different for every person. Knowing a person’s
preferences for building trust changes everything.
Though it is possible to build trust over time, we also make mistakes and inadvertently step on toes. What if you could know how to earn a person’s trust, and were able to avoid trust building trials and errors? What if it was in a report. Would you read it? Of course you would.
TrustBuilder™ profiles are the first of their kind surveys that measure and identify a person’s trust building preferences. Each report starts by identifying preferences in three core areas:
- Action: Building trust through doing
- Insight: Building trust through knowledge sharing and advising
- Connection: Building trust through relationships
Each of these three areas contain 10 unique trust building qualities for a total of 30 Builders. Your unique TrustBuilder profile will rank all 30 Builders in order, identify which are most important for earning your trust, and provide language to help you communicate your trust building preferences to the people that matter the most. Along with 30 Builders, your profile will also identified your top trust Breakers out of 10 qualities that commonly erode trust. Knowing these Breakers can help you avoid relational derailment.
Consider this. For each of us, on any given day, someone trusts us with their future, or with the functionality of their business, or with the health of the people they can not live without. We are trusted to deliver a make-or-break result, or to provide calm through useful insights, or to care for another person that may or may not otherwise be cared for. Without trust, we miss many of these opportunities. With trust, the world (literally) is a better place. We look forward to helping you build more of it.
The next four parts of our Introducing TrustBuilder™ series will explore more deeply how trust is earned, the impact on teams, and rebuilding it after trust has eroded..
